a better vintage than 2007?

Producer, producer, producer. True. But what about that 2007 vintage?

Ok, name a vintage that produced better ready-to-drink-now and and more beautiful wines than 2007? At least in Beaujolais, Bourgeuil, Chinon, the Piemonte, the Jura, and the Cote Roannaise.

Tonight it was the Les Galichets from Breton. Friday was the basic Chinon from Baudry. I've been through about 2 cases each of Le Preference from Pothiers, Vissoux Cuvee Traditionelle, and Brun L'Ancien. There's the Langhe Nebbiolo from Produtorri (a little shut down now, but great six months ago). Then there's that ethereal Houillon Poulsard.

Racy, red-fruited, and the wines don't need another decade or two in the cave.

What more could you want?

I like 2007 German rieslings very much, for the most part. A "better" vintage than many of the recent vintages, at least to my palate.

We're all happy, I see. Outstanding vintage in southeastern Spain too, with unusual freshness but also good ripeness. The kind of vintage in which even my fundamentalist friends might find some saving grace in those purple, bobal and monastrell and syrah reds...

Wines that need a decade or so to come around...(I don't need wines that will fall apart before I get to drinking them)

Well I need some 'drink em now' wines. Not every context calls for wine that requires a decade of storage. 2007 seems to solve 2 problems for me. 1) I can ignore some of the better wines in my relatively young cellar, and 2) it's a great 'restaurant vintage.'

While I've mostly held off, I see many 05 burgundies on lists (just for example.)

Hey, how do I get a "get out of jail free" card like Blackwood?

Late August is a good time to find people lazy or gone.

I wanted to thank you for the '07 Produttori rec, we've enjoyed a few bottles of that this summer. MJ smiles when she drinks it.

The 07 Baudry "Domaine" is a really nice Chinon, I don't know if you mean Les Granges when you say the basic bottle.

We tried the '07 Nebbiolo from Vajra this week. It was out of a plastic camping cup, but still very enjoyable. Red fruits and no obvious oak, but beyond that I can't say a lot.

Where do you find the Pothiers wine?

2007 = very refreshing and elegant Austrian whites. Much better than the much praised, but also generally quite heavy and alcoholic 2006s.
