Francophile Pie Franco Dinner, Feb. 17th

I have the '91 Noval Nacional, an '06 Forstreiter Tabor Gruner Veltliner, and '05 Claude Courtois Caillous du Paradis Racines in my bag. If I can make it to storage during lunch I have 2 other things I want to grab.

Keith, I love Racines but are you sure it's from ungrafted vines? The Courtois website (http://claudecourtois.fr/) only claims that Julien Courtois's "100%" is made from such, but doesn't claim that about any of the others. Lawd, we wouldn't want a wine made from grafted vines (horror of horrors) to crash the party; the others might even catch phyloxera from it.

We are stocked up on the '91 Nacional already, but thanks anyway.

'Tis (see here and search "racines": http://www.amazon.com/Inspiring-Thi...books&qid=1266422916&sr=8-2#reader_B0032Z6YY6). That's why it's called Racines (roots) with a drawing of the vine and root on the bottle.

Intriguing. Ungrafted vines also have racines, of course, and Kermit's wording is ambiguous - can't tell if he is saying that just the cab franc is ungrafted, or all of them - so I called and Etienne Courtois confirmed that only the cab franc is ungrafted, not the other cpages (the Gamay 100% is 100% franc de pied). Done with quibbling, I'll be delighted to drink it.

Weird; he says the cabernet franc is ungrafted, whereas I had heard (and read elsewhere) that the gamay was ungrafted. In any case, it's a mix of four or five varieties, so it hangs on franc de pied by a toenail.

Etienne actually said "une dizaine d'autres." They do have ungrafted Gamay that Julien uses in the 100%, and maybe some of it also finds its way into the Racines, but he didn't say.

I've just picked up a 2000 Marionnet Provignage (which unfortunately was on the decline last I had it), a Tarlant Vigne d'Antan, and a 1998 Alfieri San Germano. I'm happy to pull the Racines if the blending grapes offend.

Had no idea about the Gauby and had never heard about the Clos Saron.

For those of us that can't be there, someone please post notes.

I had no idea that these were ungrafted. I never really liked them anyway though.
