Of three Pineu mentioned, I would give the nod to the Puzelat. Possibly because I had with dinner at Nopa on a rare night out with my wife. It paired well with food and just the right weight for me. While i like the other two, I was not super impressed. The rouge gorge was a little too syrupy and the Le Verre des Potes was too one-dimensional. I would give them both another shot though. I would seek out the Puzelat.

fuck you newbie!

I agree that the puzelat is quite good, but i won't describe the Heredia as one dimensional. They are all made in a very different style. Puzelat using cold carbonic, heredia working with over a 100 years old franc de pied, Nicolas (belliviere) seems to be pushing for exctraction...
My favorite Pineau d'aunis so far is the CRB l'arpent rouge. That's the only one i would drink over "la tesniere".

I like the Belliviere, Tesniere and the CRB. I agree with guilhaume that the belliviere is the most extracted, but I have never found it too much. The Verre des Poetes is something else entirely and takes a minute to warm up to (ditto with heredias gamay). The pascal Janvier is too light and it ends leaving a lot of what Pineau interesting behind.

Awww. thanks for the warm welcome. I would expect nothing less.

Yea. You are right that the Heredia is not one-dimensional. I think i was reaching for something else. Maybe that the ripeness was the most pronounced aspect that I remembered and I don't remember much else. I'd like to give it another shot though.

I'll have to try the CRB soon. I like many of their other wines.

Oh and BTW. Fuck you too.

I'm a little surprised you like the CRB but find the Janviers too light. I thought they were both sort of similar styles, non extracted, leaning towards the light side of the spectrum. I enjoyed both, and wish I had more of the CRB around.

The CRB has that pure CRB minerality beneath it all that I only associate with CRB which I love. The Janvier is good drinking wine but there really isn't any depth there.

Disorder opinionsI was wondering about what people think of Thierry Puzelat Pineau d'Aunis La Tesniere compared to Belliviere Coteaux du Loire Le Rouge pineau d'aunis. I heard the tail end of a heated discussion as I was ready to leave the Dressner industry tasting in San Francisco last wednesday and was curious about the opinions here.

As a general rule (I haven't had the most recent vintage of the Belliviere) I prefer the Puzelat.

did someone just say the magic word, crb l'arpent rouge? but it's not made every year, is it - 08 pineau d'aunis is a proper rose, and a very good one.

i could not keep my hands off the 06 l'arpent rouge, glorious stuff

Not much talk of the Briseau Patapon. I like it very much along with the others mentioned above. I find it darker and a bit more burgundian in nature than the rest of the lot, though it still has that classic verve of a pineau d'aunis.

agreed.

a fun thought tho -- the arpent would be less of a sore thumb in a tasting of beaujolais than crb's gamay. no?

I've had a couple of these in the current release and concur with your assessment. I want to sit on a couple of bottles for a couple of months to see what happens.

What is your "current release"? Round these parts we are still sipping on the 06.
