CWD: 2006 Movia Doublemint, er, Sauvignon

It is crazy, how much this thing smells like spearmint. After nearly an hour and a half it's starting to dissipate, slightly. It is almost too overwhelming. If you look hard enough you can also get a bit of an apricot pit/almond nuttiness, too. On the palate this has a nice acidity to it and lively citrus notes. Thankfully the oak is not as apparent as in some other Movia wines. I don't know how the 2006 was aged, but maybe Ales used a lighter touch with this one or perhaps it has just integrated better. Nonetheless, it's good if not a bit left-field. I wish I had a roasted fish (or maybe some tuna crudo, perhaps) with some lemon in front of me to enjoy it with.

we had the un-disgorged pink bubbly awhile back...and opted to drink it on the lees. it def had the herby minty thing, and was really tasty....if also left field.

The Quattro Mani "toh-kai," which is made by Ales Kristancic of Movia for a negociant producer, has a very strong note of spearmint as well.

I haven't had the pleasure of having the Puro Rose yet, but I went to a Movia & COS tasting a few weeks ago where they opened up three bottles of the regular Puro. All three bottles tasted different; similar yet different with varying degrees of lees-y-ness. The first, being handled the most 'delicately' (keeping the bottle upside down from storage to disgorging) was the clearest and cleanest of the three. It was bracing in it's vibrancy. To borrow a phrase, it would slap the jet-lag out of you. The other bottles were shaken a bit before disgorgement and touch more muddled. The distributors got Giusto Occhipinti to open one of the bottles to much revelry.

Just picked up two more of these. They're fun and cheap. And, yes, the spearmint note is strong as well. Though, it seems to dissipate quicker with this one than the Sauvignon. Also, this has that nice peach hint to it. My feeling with the Toh-kai is that I preferred it at and touch over cellar temp (didn't seem as bitter then).
