The world's most expensive hooch?

Anyone had it?

The original version of the post read "Anyone had it? Except Claude, of course."

Because I have this suspicion that the number of times Claude has had Chave Vin de Paille and DRC Marc de Bourgogne in the same day surpasses the total number of times I've had either.

But I bet he's never sat in my apartment eating wild boar and drinking riesling made by Burgundians!

We used to have it at the French restuarant I worked at.

de Vogue makes one as well. And I have seen some that was Hospices de Beaune related. Also Drouhin, Bize, Pillot.

I have the feeling that Marc de Bourgogne is often too angular and undernourished for my taste, and I think your money would be better spent on (for instance) Darroze Bas-Armagnac "Saint-Aubin", or some such.

Probably most Marc de Bourgogne not produced by a famous estate or by someone with laid in distribution goes not in bottle, but to the production of cheese.

And did you try it? Well, of course you did. And?

Marc de Bourgogne has not been my favorite in the past, but possibly paying whatever this one costs would make me like it more. I've seen that effect at work somewhere, just can't remember where...

Marc de Chteau-Grillet remains my most pleasant surprise in this category. Really fabulous stuff. But yes, I'd still rather have Armagnac.

Or Etienne Brana Vieille Prune. My new best friend. Wherever it goes, excitement follows. Perhaps more than is necessarily desirable.

I am having a hard time actually remembering if I tried it.

I am pretty sure I did, on my first visit as a customer before I was employed there. But that was like 9 years ago. I distinctly remember seeing it, asking about it, the bottle being brought over so I could see it more closely, and then the memory goes dim.

It is possible that we no longer had it by the time of my employ at the same establishment. I don't recall it being on the after dinner drink cart, and I used to give that a spin around the room quite often, so you would think I would remember.

They should put that in their marketing material.

I knew you had experience with rolling carts!

What, if I may be so rude to ask, was the tariff? It appears to be under 300 euros/bottle here, which is like they're giving it away.

That's funny, I have almost the exact same non-memory, I'm pretty sure I had it at some burgundy-oriented restaurant extravaganza years ago and the bottle sure rings a bell, but if I did it sure didn't make an impression. Very expensive I believe, but of course that's a relative term at DRC. All I recall for sure is for years thinking, "I wonder why Marc de Champagne from high end producers tastes better than Marc de Bourgogne from high end wineries." In either case, they seem to bear the same relationship to traditional Marcs as couture to mall knock-offs.

Hey, I've had both.

I like Marc OK. The DRC was more flavorful than average, but not worth a super hefty tariff.

Why do you ask?

Mais, plus a change, plus c'est le tlphone tombe dans la cuve.

(OK, the part beyond the comma was beyond my abilities, and a guess.)
