In fact, yes: Elodie Balme 2007 Ctes-du-Rhne-Villages Rasteau. Good wine, maybe even better when Sharon passive-aggressively forces it on you.

We'll see if it's as good without Sharon's input when I get around to trying it. I think I picked it up at the behest of the proprietor of the Cave du Pantheon, and was trying to decide if it was more of the drink while still fruit forward mode or the hide somewhere safe for a bit type. Do you have a tasting note for it?

If that was a random guess, I was searching for info on it yesterday, and I don't read a lot about Rasteau, so I made a guess.

Cheers,

Kevin

Kevin, I don't like to unduly preview notes that will undoubtedly appear sometime in 2013, but here you go:

Elodie Balme 2007 Ctes-du-Rhne-Villages Rasteau (Rhne) Dark, dark, dark blackish-purple fruit, evergreen herbs, and grilled meat. But theres an inner light to it, as well. Said light doesnt quite defy the darkness, but it does provide its heartso rather than the charred, blackhearted typicity one expects, theres rather a wine with all the identifiable trappings but something much more generous and friendly within. Really, really good. (11/09)

Sounds good. But there's too much good wine and not enough time/liver space to drink it all. Woe is us!

Oh, when I'm not around, an eternal root day of the world descends upon these wines, you know.

Not that I'm shilling, or anything.

(N.b. Elodie, the check has to be made out in euros.)

Thanks! Cued appropriately.

So you're a believer in the root/flower etc day thing? Right before I came to meet you last night, Rafael was whipping out his calendar to show me the prospects for which vintages to open on Christmas and New Year's Eve. I tried to get him to elaborate on the scientific mechanism underlying the concept (because air pressure seems important to me), but he didn't want to go down that route.

TN Elodie Balme Cote du Rhone Rasteau 2007:

Really really good. Fruity as hell without being frooty. Strawberrys and cherries. Good acidity, while being nicely spicy and fun. If this is the advertised 15% I'm amazed. Totally fun and primary. I'm no great fan of Grenache, typically, and this really works for me. If this is any indication of Ms. Balme's prowess and real estate, I'm buying. And going long. Paging Mr. Dressner...

cheers,

Kevin
