ChocoVine.

Plus a change, Sharon. It's white Zin and wine coolers repackaged as a luxury commodity: wine for non-winos. Someone over on WLDG actually wrote to praise this, so clearly it appeals to some demographic, just not mine.

Is this a little copycattish, though? I mean, I was forced to taste this about two years ago.

(If the link brings you to the age-check splash page, it's Rosenblum's chocolate "port.")

There's lots of these boozy chocolate + cream drinks around (e.g., Vermeer, Vandermint, Bailey's, Godiva).
Indeed. Given the eagerness of many events and publicity people to pair wine and chocolate, I'd call the appearance of this drink inevitable. Gagworthy, but inevitable.

"All curves and sinful indulgence, Dsire is a bit of a bad girl, but in all the right ways. Like a long, seductive kiss that never seems to end, the essence of Dsire is playful, enticing and fun. Conceived as a deliciously decadent Californian interpretation of the great Port wines, Dsire Chocolate Dessert Wine is an exotic blend of Zinfandel, along with two of Portugals classic grape varieties and an infusion of rich, opulent chocolate. An experience unto itself in the world of wine, Dsire is meant to be sipped and savored as a luscious liquid dessert (think heavenly chocolate mousse without the calories), or a companion alongside the most hedonistic after dinner treats whatever they may be. Produced in Rosenblum Cellars signature robust, full-fruit style, using world-class fruit and handcrafted winemaking techniques, we invite you to discover Dsires many charms."

What really makes this stuff sing for me is that it actually says "artificial chocolate flavor" right there on the label. A part of me admires this--it must have taken some guts to put out something so totally fraudulent.

Guts, or Constellation. Besides, do you really think their target market cares?

Sells well here in Charlotte. In fact, the distributor is out about half the time we order it. Haven't tasted it, happy to sell it. Happy to have a job = happy to sell what people want to buy.

Among the many reasons I am not independently wealthy is my failure to think in terms of "target markets." So I am condemned to slog through the Sands of marketing machinations.
