Is Druet any good?

They really were good (and even better) in the late 1980s! I haven't seen the wines in years and years, have no idea what's going on there now.

Last time I was in Detroit I opened a '96 Grand Mont. I don't remember too much about it other than wishing it was a bit better. There were a lot of other wines that evening, so it's safe to say it got lost in the shuffle. Maybe it was still too early to open it? I was hoping it would have been close to the beauty that a '96 C & P Breton Galichets had been. Too lofty an expectation I'm thinking... Putnam was there, maybe he has a different view?

Had a '96 Cent Boisseles a few weeks ago that was singing its way into the coda, as long as one doesn't require fruit in their wines. Pepper and grass, dust and herbs. A little strappy, hence my warning about the impending finale.

I don't think I've seen a vintage since 2000 on these shores.

My most recent consumption was a '97 Clos de Danzay in 2007. The brief note in my cellar program was "This sucked. Drink up ASAP." I then opened my last bottle in '08, but it was corked. Don't recall seeing any vintages after the 1997 in any of the markets I frequent.

Cheers,

Dave
