I opened a '95 Cote-Rotie last night that I'd bought a case of in '97 through my former CA distributor, who'd been handling Junguenet's Rhones for awhile. It wasn't bad, a little generic-tasting, too young by a long shot. I remembered that when I'd first tasted it there was a very strong impression of brand new oak, which had struck me as most un-Jasmin-like. After a few years the wine seemed to swallow the oak pretty convincingly (though I got a whiff of it again last night, when I first yanked out the cork.)
And the cork! "Mise en Bouteilles a la Propriete!" No vintage. No Jasmin name. If I'd noticed it before, I forgot it also. Strikes me pretty weird, but is that others' experience with Jasmin wines from Junguenet?
Where are the Jasmins of yesteryear?
