I have no clue whether school gardens are a good idea, but I certainly wouldn't be able to decide based on this article. Why does anyone continue to publish Caitlin Flanagan?

This is hardly a revolutionary idea. Immigrant parents have been teaching the value of education as leading to professional occupation for some time now. Remember the old Jewish joke: the fetus is abortable until such time as it is granted its MD.

Oh, I asked the question because according to some obscure Korean-American family law, choosing a JD over an MD is usually in itself a hanging offense. I somehow managed to get a reprieve. Hopefully I can get one here as well?
 
Not to drift, but was a long article in the Sunday Times on a company that whose business it is to treat beef fat, separated from the cow, with ammonia, so that it can be re-added to ground beef to make - in theory - e. coli-free hamburger patties. Problem is, the plants themselves keep getting contaminated. One key purchaser of the final product: public schools. (This producer has a cameo appearance in Food Inc., by the way)

So Scott's point is right on target, however you assess that particular writer.
