Jean returned to town last night, so tonight was a chance to celebrate with a family dinner: smoked salmon on baguette, seared sea scallops with mango salsa, rice and corn. With all this good stuff, what better to serve than a Muscadet? The 2002 Luneau-Papin Muscadet Sevre et Main L D'Or was in a lovely place tonight: rounded minerality, lemony pineapple and great clarity. Jean, who is still phobic about aging whites, proclaimed it a "great wine" and drank it even after I revealed its age. Who needs Chablis when Melon can be this good?
