SWR: Baffling prose

My concern with the reviewer's quoted sentence is the phrase "in order to." He's assigning motive to the filmmaker's stylistic choices, which to me seems hopelessly speculative.
While not knowing if the following is the case here, the media kits that accompany movies, books, music, and so forth are full of fun quotes and fake interview responses from which a critic in need of words to fill space can draw all manner of useful and seemingly insightful conclusions, like "director Bob Bobsyeruncle says that Police, Adjective is intended to highlight the moral weight of creating and interpreting information" and so forth. Something that becomes clear as one reads reviews from varied sources and sees the same thoughts, endlessly repeated.

Again, I don't know if that happened here. I'd hope not.

I fear we're not as funny as we used to be.

How many people reading this review could possibly know what the reviewer is talking about?

Yes, it appears the reviewer believes that the director has purposely chosen a simplified or "objective" style, in order to highlight the (supposed) "moral implications" of doing otherwise (i.e. choosing a more subjective, interpretive style). Like Thor writes, the reviewer could be implying that the film is at least in part an intentional commentary on filmmaking itself, or just stating his own interpretation of the director's stylistic approach. At any rate, I bet the movie in question is not a popcorn chomping, feel good all over, three hankie, happy ending kind of film.

Competition brings the best out. Even when you know your up against an unbeatable opponent.

Coad, we learned so much from you and so little.

Has anyone seen him recently in what passes for real life?

Arranging dinners is hard because Lisa isn't told her on-call schedule until several seconds before it begins. But they made a rare appearance at Kane's for New Years and things seemed to be going well for them.

There are pictures on Brad's various social media venues, if you can stomach same. He lives. We lack his grace, but he lives.

It sucks without him, it's true. It's like it's winter, without skiable snow or fun, but still chilly and desolate.
