Junketing Alsace, part deuxime

I didn't get to try nespresso because guilhaume didn't want the secret to get out.

Is it really that terrible?

I've had good espresso from a pod system. It was Italian as were the pods, but given a few controlling factors, I'm not sure why this would be a bad system for espresso.

I'm more of a "parker" kind of guy. I have ethic(s).
Exactly. Ethics everyone should aspire to. Also, tweets.

Excuse me, there's got to be a limit to how black humor can be here.
Not so far.

Don't tell us ... the local producer's association?
Someone much more organized. CIVA barely knows how to get out of Colmar.

I think the Commanderie St. Johns is issuing invitations soon.
I'm looking forward to a fine Malta beverage.

Is it really that terrible?
Gustatorially? No. That's sort of the problem: it's a massive improvement for many French establishments. I'd rather have Nespresso than what they were serving before. But that's like saying I'd rather have Cheez-Its than grissini because the latter suck. Why not serve better grissini?

Can we divert for some carmenre tasting? And I hear they're doing fabulous things with barriqued torrontes.

Hey, if Orpheus can be black, why not humor?

Black is fine, but pitch black?

There's an old Brazilian joke in which a guy goes up to a streetwalker and propositions her. She slaps him in the face. A bystander asks the guy: "good heavens, I know that woman, she's game for anything and everything, what could you possibly have asked her to elicit such a reaction?" The guy says "I dunno, I just asked her if she'd be willing to taste some carmenre and go on a junket to South America because I hear they're doing fabulous things with barriqued torronts."

illy pods aren't bad at all. And I've been drinking a lot of Espresso lately. Mostly Hairbender - that's my currrent favorite.

There truly is a lot of bad Espresso in the world, and not just in France.

I thought all the Brazilian whores were males dressing as women. Or is that only the putes in the Bois de Boulogne?

We only export the Bois de Boulogne crowd.

For the safety and well-being of all concerned, I've moved in with the host of my Alsatian junket, and we're planning a motion-filled extension that will cover some of Western Europe and a few of the outlying islands. Brad Kane was not invited to join us, though Cory might be.

The Boxlers are stuck in the Canary Islands, where they've been indentured and ordered to make moscato under difficult post-volcanic conditions until the rest of Europe emerges from difficult post-volcanic conditions. This makes an up-to-date assessment of the Sommerberg difficult, though I understand that things look good for Lanzarote edelzwicker.

Sorrows will be drowned at a place that actually admits to serving a taco flammenkche. I suspect the host is trying to get out of her monetary commitment to the well-being of the Alsace 1.

Brad Kane was last seen fleeing from the TGV police.

Yeah, lots and lots of terrible, watery shit.

From a technical standpoint, I don't see why pods wouldn't be perfect. The only gripe you could have would be the freshness and quality of the beans.

So, are Nespresso beans really that bad and or old? Presumably, the vacuum seal would limit the oxidation of the ground beans in the pod so as long as they were reasonably fresh, there wouldn't be a problem. The quality of the raw ingredients, I don't know, but why wouldn't they be able to be good?

One of those machines would certainly be convenient.

continuing the cross-thread flow...where would one get some interesting domestic cheeses that would possibly be closer than Providence? Any suggestions?

Oh, and I was wrong, it wasn't an illy pod machine that I thought did pretty well, it was a Lavazza machine, and it was blindingly shiny. It was also owned by a couple of espresso-fueled Italian-Americans so I think pod turnover was quite high. In fact, we got the last 2 and an order was placed immediately. I imagine pod age is probably important.

I don't know anywhere reliable (other than the usual Boston sources) closer than Lebanon, NH. Not very helpful to you, I know.

Lebanon, NH..

I was going to email you tomorrow to thank you for the recommendation.

Excellent selection and some pristine cheeses, including tonight's Lazy Lady Capriola.

What, you down at his place in Lage Cuomo now?
Is that the place that Mario used to own?

In any case, he's flown me and four other bloggers in to review the current release of his girlfriend. Though we have yet to be served Nespresso.

Rahsaan, you're welcome. I owe you an email, but it's been a little crazy here.
