Jeebus in SF Monday, 12/8

I could be there in mythical time. I might even be there in real time, if everything works out, and my grandson isn't on stage at the Geary that night, Scrooging around.

I'd love to do Jai Yun, but I noticed that Jay's gout board dinner is at least partly riesling-themed. In the interests of diversity he may prefer a cuisine that's not going to invite another evening of mostly riesling.

I have two Burgundies shipped out for the dinner so let's stick with Bar Tartine. Theme is wine that will go with generally wine-friendly food.

Look forward to seeing all of you there.

The combination of Monday and party of 8 does pose a barrier. I've just looked on opentable.com and there's nothing really exciting (often, though, restaurants will have space that they don't list there).

Wow. WTF?

That is a little bit obnoxious and anti-Jeebus in spirit.

You should call it an offline and post it on another bored.

Is there an approved list of wines as well?

Like, I mean, WTF?

If I were on the "Waiting List", I'd show up anyway. The only one there big enough to throw me out is Timko, and he's a gentle giant.

This is a bad trend. I urge the Politburo to take action.

I've made a reservation for Monday, December 8 at 6.30 at Sociale (Perbacco didn't have anything after 5.30 unless we went to after 9).

Here's the website: http://www.caffesociale.com/

Here's a map: http://maps.google.com/?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=3665+Sacramento+St.,San+Francisco,CA,94118

Here's a link to get directions if you're coming by public transit: http://tripplanner.transit.511.org/mtc/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en&itdLPxx_homepage=secondStep

We'll be sitting out on the patio, which gives us more space. I've been out there when it has been cold and rainy and that's no problem. I said that we'd have 8-12 bottles, so it's better to go for quality than quantity.

Get between me and a Tempier and you'll see how gentle I am.
Jay, I had mentioned in the Oct. 1 post that I think you should take me off the list if there's others who are certain to attend. So please take me off the list. If it gets moved to a place where group size isn't a problem I'll join if I'm in the Bay Area at that time.
I'd toss Pesce as a place that could probably handle eight people, although as a fish place you're probably limiting yourself to whites and rose. Maybe pinot.

Sociale outside can easily handle 12 (or more) outside (I've done that three times there)...so I don't understand a waiting at 8 people.

P.S. Thanks Claude for seizing the day.

It's Jay's call on the number. As long as we're at Sociale, though, please consider that our corkage is $25/btle -- i.e., bring wine that is worth a $25 premium.

So, in other words, one that retails for $12.50? Just kidding, Claude...

Claude,

That is always the case. Almost no restaurant books parties larger than 5 or 6 on open table; you have to call them.
