Summer film

I'd love to be persuaded, but I tend to find Kieslowski a load of hooey. The only one that has any weight or real humanity is "Red," and that's probably thanks to Trintignant.

I don't like the esoterism of Vronique, the opaque ponderousness of Blue, the itchy skin of White, the "statement" of the Dekalogue.

L'me slave, mon cul.

Kieslowski's best is "Trois Couleurs: Rouge." I can't get into the rest.

Really? I thought that Bleu was the best of the lot, but perhaps that it because it was the first of the trio and because I like Juliette Binoche better than Irene Jacob (but I prefer both to Julie Delpy).

I just checked and Firefly is available from iTunes. Brilliant sf tv series from Joss Whedon which the Fox TV executives hated. What better recommendation can you ask for?

I've heard that's great. Can you tell me more?

Back when it first came out I was told by a number of different people that I had to watch it. I pointed out that I did not own a tv (which they knew). I was then told to buy a tv and dvd player, buy the dvds and watch the series and it would be worth it.

Excellent acting and excellent writing. SF with a Western sensibility (where the frontier consists of outer planets and moons).

Comedy, adventure, and tragedy in varying percentages. Really good.

I'd be happy to loan you the cds when I'm done watching them through for a second time. Tht fact that it was killed off by Fox is one of the great television injustices.

Ding ding ding! Juliette Binoche made this the best of the three. I am a man of a certain type. And she is of that certain type...

I liked Firefly too. Also the movie they made afterwards. But really the only injustice is that not enough people agreed with us to make it profitable for Fox. Besides, like all series, if it had lasted long enough, it would have gotten worse. Endings have their roles in plots.

Morvern CallarHow did i forget to mention this?
This reminded me for some reason of Sexy Beast (your metntion, not Morvern Callar). That's a good one.

Also, put me down for preferring Blue to all the other 'Color' films. And if one were going to vote for maybe the most anti-summer film The Decalogue would be way up there.

And as for BBC series, I was a big fan of Life On Mars. If that's available, check that out.

I found The Dollhouse to be the only good thing Josh Whedon has ever done
That's it, you're off the Festivus Card list.

Cliff, I wholeheartedly endorse Firefly as well, but it's awfully frustrating if you get into it, because...poof, it's over.

Grateful Dawg? Nicish documentary about the Jerry Garcia-David Grisman Collaboration, made (I think) by Grisman's son. Good if you like these musicians and their music.

Ian...I knever knew

Yeah, it looked pretty scary.

Not unlike The Wire.

Smiley's People, Black Adder, Cracker, first couple of seasons of Buffy T.V.S., Extras, The Office (either), the David Souchet Poirots, Lonesome Dove, Deadwood, and Band of Brothers in the series/mini-series category weren't mentioned above. In addition to Firefly, the movie Serenity is worth watching.
