Am I hopelessly neo-retro in recommending Juno?

Great movie.

You will be branded a total misogynist if you disagree.

I embrace misogyny then. I hate Ellen Page in that movie, but she can be a brilliant actress. See Hard Candy. A must see. Warning though, it is very sick. But. Ms. Page is captivating in it.

I just checked and Firefly is available from iTunes. Brilliant sf tv series from Joss Whedon which the Fox TV executives hated. What better recommendation can you ask for?

I've heard that's great. Can you tell me more?

Back when it first came out I was told by a number of different people that I had to watch it. I pointed out that I did not own a tv (which they knew). I was then told to buy a tv and dvd player, buy the dvds and watch the series and it would be worth it.

Excellent acting and excellent writing. SF with a Western sensibility (where the frontier consists of outer planets and moons).

Comedy, adventure, and tragedy in varying percentages. Really good.

I'd be happy to loan you the cds when I'm done watching them through for a second time. Tht fact that it was killed off by Fox is one of the great television injustices.

Jay thanks.....I need to see it then. So many people agree here, so it must be good.

How can iTunes not have Smiley's People? That's very wrong.

How can that be? I'll send you the dvds when you get back from your trip if you email me.

Oh, also "Ice House" off BBC is worth watching. Minette Walters.

I have a bubbling cauldron of hatred for Juno. Unfortunately the reasons for this would throw the whole thread off so I'll have to leave it a mystery. Watch El Topo.

Cory, you know El Topo? That movie is insanely fucking awesome. So unique. If you like that then see Leolo. Leolo is a film made by someone who died way too early. Even though it is Jean-Claude Lauzon's only film, I consider him one of the greatest filmakers to grace us. This film is stunning. I like it even a bit better than El Topo, but it has that non-linear, eerie, yet beautiful vibe to it. See it now.

What in Juno, made you think of El Topo?

Me too, (but unrelated to El Topo).

Leolo!

My (now) wife and I made out for the first time after watching that movie. Good memories.

I didn't realize that was the director's last film. Bummer.

Totally unrelated. I realized I had written a completely useless post, and decided to save it with a recommendation.

Speaking of Juno, Arrested Development is better. That's a series worth re-watching while flying to New Zealand.

It's is an inspiring movie it's own way. Man, your wife must be cool if that was your first date movie.

What could have been.....He died in a plane crash while working on his next project.

Thanks! Though, once back in NYC, there are more options. I've heard of House, but never Ice House. Sounds like I'm going to be busy this summer.

El Topo was by far one of the strangest films I've ever seen. Luckily, I saw it on the big screen. I doubt it would have been as effective on TV (or IGadget).

Firefly is also available in its entirety on Netflix Watch Instantly, their streaming service. As well as Serenity.

Many of the BBC stuff mentioned, too.
