How come nobody's said a word about the World Cup?

I would still like to know how Angel Di Maria's deliberate hand ball on the 7th minute did not call for a booking, while Mueller's accidental contact on the 35th did.

Furious.

Because if you carded Argentines every time they deserved it there would only be 7 men left on the pitch.

I am definitely in favor of oxidative whites although I struggle to come up with any other than Sherry (which I don't drink enough of) that I can remember.

Coule de Serrant, for one? (grumble)
How about a few extra linesmen for THAT vineyard.

I thought the vineyard was hardly the problem, and the linesmen, instant replay, etc. belonged in the cellar. No ?

The last time I was in the vineyard, it looked pretty sad, too. Like houseplants in my apartment, when there were still survivors.

Can someone tell this man he's come to the right place?

Either way, Robert and VS, Spain-Germany should be a smashing match. Too bad that I have to be at work while it takes place.
Should be, but after watching Germany dismantle Argentina and Spain struggle against Paraguay, I'm not so sure.

Guess you're sure now!

spain certainly doesn't look like a contender.
Thanks for the quote, Robert. I will gladly go back to it on July 7.

Soccer is not baseball, or football, or basketball...
I knew I would be getting back to this quote today.

Soccer's not as easy as first appearances indicate, is it?

But I was wrong in my NBA-inspired assessment of the quarter-finals and the semis. I said that Spain had beaten the Celtics and would now play the Spurs/Germany.

It turns out that the Germans were the Celtics, again.

Will anyone dare play this Spain team straight up, challenging in midfield, instead of waiting in the trenches with ten men defending?

I very much doubt it'll be the Netherlands. This is not Clockwork Orange II. Unfortunately.

Oh well you do have to beat the Celts several times to win the ring, don't you?

So wish I could have watched it on something other than streaming on my laptop, but it sure looked like Spain did their homework on how to stop Germany. Well done La Roja. Should be an interesting final. Wonder what the octopus is going to predict?

No kidding, what happened to that German attack? One answer - Puyol, surely man of the match!

Puyol was fine and he scored a great goal. But Piqu was more dominant at center back.

Spain broke its own World Cup record for most minutes without a goal being scored against it...

Two more factoids:

This will be the first world title ever won by a European team away from Europe.

This will be the first time ever that Spain and the Netherlands meet in a World Cup or European Championship match. (That one is really strange!)

But there is a little history, nevertheless, going back 450 years or so.

Yes, master v. colony. Perhaps no more so than Uruguay v. Spain would have been. Except for the names.

We were only a couple of goals away from Paraguay vs. Urugay - now that would have been a strange and unique final.

I watched todays match and got a better feel for it. I'll root for Spain. Tell me on that break? after Spain got up by one goal, I couldn't believe the Spanish player didn't make the final pass to his team-mate who would have had a wide open shot. Now that was a two on one fast break situation like in basketball. In a similiar situation in a pro basketball game the crowd would have booed that player till his ears rang for a week.
