Well, in a certain sense wood is wood.

That's what she said.

I've just reviewed the transcripts of your conversation with Sharon, and she said nothing of the kind.

who said anything about stems mimicking new oak influence ?

"We both look around, alarmed at this noisy outburst. Everyone else is still engaged in animated discussions about rootstock and the percentage of stems in the mystery wine and how that mimics the influence of oak. "

The Jamshead sounds interesting, I've liked the little I've had from the Yarra Valley (just Mt. Mary really).

Stem inclusion mimicking new oak influence is something that always throws me. I often get it with Dujac and more recently with Rhys.

Our host took an immediate and vocal dislike to it, but I found it quite pleasant. It had a nice balance, in a sort of fleshy-ripe way.

We're in the process of planting some Cab in the valley that's on bamboo rootstock and will be harvested at approx 33 brix so we can produce wine that will have an immediate gob of fruit texture and not be hindered by oak at all. If you're interested I can get you on the mailing list for this wine when it's ready to be shipped.

Will you be including the bamboo stems in the fermentation? Had a lovely 2006 Faury St. Joseph with dinner tonight.
