2009 Lapierre Morgon - anyone?

I think certain flavor profiles will attract and others simply won't. Chateau Cambon Morgon, at 14%, juicy and full, is a slam dunk with the big wine macho guy-but want to be-natural wine crowd....for better or worse. Hard to imagine the same guy swallowing a Nantes white...or any kind of orange wine at all. Sour doesn't work with that crowd.

I wonder if there's baseline and indicator data we can use to see what happens this year to pricing and sales rates for Beaujolais, relative to, say, 05.

I wonder what the 09 damage will be to Touraine reds.

So far '09 prices have been in line with '05, though I'm hearing anecdotally that the wines are selling very fast. I've believed for awhile that the region was one David Schildknecht or Allen Meadows piece away from getting raided by the hordes, but it'll take higher numbers than 93s to do it. So I don't think there is any reason to worry about a "Fourrier effect" or anything like that just yet. Ditto the Loire.

Actually, I'm happy for Jean Paul...that's great for him.
The start was Asimov's article from last year or so. Maybe one of those difficult but ultimately rewarding vintages in 2010 will be the buyers saviour.

Just tell everyone Dubouef is the real insider's secret. The four are decoys for the hoi polloi.

Who the hell's selling Roilette at $15?

I guess it's good for the growers, but I hope they don't get addicted to the revenue flows: next year it will be Cahors or something.

Being a score whore, I just picked up the '09 Lapierre here in Portland at Garrison's Fine Wines. Just $24, or nearly 4 points per dollar. Which is a friggin' steal if you ask me.

I had a bottle last night, well half anyway, and it was sappy and more than a little bit meaty. Quite good, but rather large scaled.

It'll be interesting to see how it shapes out tonight.

Also picked up a Belle Pente Williamette 2007. Haven't had one of those in a while and am really looking forward to it.

let us know how it goes on this one.

Had another bottle of the Lapierre tonight as well as the second half of last nights bottle. Didn't show as well as last nights, actually both were a bit ponderous.

A bottle of 2005 Roilette was slow to open, but started to really gain some steam. Not quite there, but staring to show signs of turning the corner.

A 2004 Schaefer Domprost Auslese was screamingly good with cheese.

The '07 Tardive was entirely closed and surly when opened one night this past week. Stoppered and put in the fridge for 24 hours, it was magnificent the next night --especially after about an hour. (Keith, don't write about this.)
