Huet 2009

The 3 vineyard sec wines are becoming available. My preference is 2002 vs. 2005 stylistically. Interested in the opinions of the masses!

An offer for these came in today in the Rare Wine Co. mailer, along with the long-awaited 2002 Petillant Reserve. In fact, the whole mailer this month is Huet.

Maybe just the usual retailer hype, but it sounds like there will be a still later disgorgement of the '02 Petillant Reserve as well, as this release is being described as having been specially "disgorged just for this offer". And indeed, "the domaine will continue to age most of its remaining stock.."

Tried the '09's at the domaine in April. Thought '09 is best for sweeties. The sec was puppy friendly, the LHL demi-sec was unbalanced in the alcohol department. The sweeties were great. Lots of minerality and balanced sweetness, though they're quite rich. A Constance was made in '09, btw. Deeeeliscious.

Actually, they got the same deal from Huet that Sherry-Lehman gets from Duboeuf--a special cuvee representing the best of the wines.

All those people selling Reserve '02 in the big fat bottles in Europe last week were just fools who get the 2nd-best cuvee.

Have to love you guys trophy hunting later and later disgorgements of petillant ...

I mount the bottles on plaques after drinking them; our den walls are just about full. Scares the hell out of the kids.

1980 Vin de Glace....

As for the 2002 Ptillant trip, I have to say that my favored incarnation was the first one. It had an offhand looseness, a bit of oxidative dandyishness, I drank the bejesus out of that mofo when I was in NY last year.

New 2002 "Rserve" has 2 more bars of pressure and zero dosage. Zing!

thank you very much for your responses. One has only so many hepatocytes, and thus I may concentrate on the non-sec wines.

Take note of who gave you that advice. Brad has never been a fan of secs so if you've liked them in earlier vintages that's not a reason to avoid them now. I have not, myself, tried any '09s yet.

So, let me get this straight. My usual objection to secs is that they're a little too severe for my tastes, which is what you and others like about them, yet I call the '09's puppy friendly, which should suggest to you that they're not remotely severe, yet you still think they'll be business as usual? Interesting.

Fwiw, despite their higher normal acidity, I like the '08 Secs because they also have higher rs than usual.

Hey let's be honest no wine gets you excited unless it's contains a shit load of rs. Sutter home has your picture on the the wall of their White Zin Hall of Fame in their tasting room.
When you were here I put out an amazing array of wine and your only comment was "no Huet Demi Secs"? Didn't mention Secs as usual.

Studies show that the terroir some drinkers claim to detect in Sec-style Chenin Blanc may simply be the result of the acids stripping away tooth enamel.
