I wonder what Fourrier Sr would have done with this guy, had he visited.

Human sacrifice is still legal in Gevrey.
Best, Jim

This made me actually laugh out loud so much so that I felt a suddent compulsion actually to spell out laugh out loud.

What is unclear to me is why he thinks this image is one that will sell anyone on him. I'm not being ironic. I truly don't get it. I get the one where he shows himself hobnobbing with vignerons in vineyards. But what's the attraction in clips where he says numbers?

It's a voodoo ritual. He is possessed of the god of points, and if you were a believer you could tell.

I think he is projecting his unshakable confidence that:

*Points really mean something
*He can assign them on the absolute scale
*If you listen to him, you can catch a contact high of his confidence and univariate scale and etc., and you needn't fear the mockery of your dinner guests when you pull out the expensive juice.

Something like that.

Plus, there's no denying that some folks find points 'cool'. Hence the giddy thrill of him dishing out those high scores.

But yes, it was all very bizarre to me.

The poor man's left his safe harbor and is trying to make a living doing what he's done for the last umpteen years. He's trying to 'Chanel-ize' his brand, aim for the monied folks for whom the words "perfection" and "the best" are sin qua non, whatever the substance. He doesn't have WS's overhead staff to help with the job now, so the seams are showing.

He should drink some Breton and start posting here, instead.

Surely he didn't put this together himself, it must be someone editing video off footage off his website and then posting it on Youtube, right? I mean it's just not possible he edited this video himself. Right?

Highly doubtful. As someone in film/video post-production, I find watching these videos painful; akin to bamboo shoots under my fingernails. I just can't imagine Suckling sitting there, capturing the footage into Final Cut (or most likely iMovie) and then putting it together, exporting it and uploading to his site/youtube. But, whomever is putting this together for him, needs to get better quickly. It's not even good-bad; like retro-cheesy. The supers at the front and the whole thing actually, look like he got a bad wedding videographer to do this for him. Epic fail.

It seems an entirely logical follow-on from the first video which took a simple and probably important message from someone seeking to start a website dealing with such matters - "I know most of the important winemakers around, I have been to their wineries and vineyards and I have access" and drove it home with the subtlety of a pile-driver. " I am with.... I am with....I am with.... Bang Bang Bang.

This latest one seems to follow the same route. How do you illustrate the opening oversized written pronouncements about the search for perfection which he admits probably doesn't exist?

You chant a set of increasing point scores with none so low that they could be an embarrassment to the onlookers [the embarrassment came from a different source] from poorly inter-cut separate video pieces and an odd, echoing soundtrack until you reach the perfect 100 and then, to make sure the target audience doesn't miss the point, you say it again and again and again.

So perfection is not so impossible then if you are in the right company.

It seems very odd and yet every forum seems to be full of it with some even running more than one thread....and you know what is said about publicity.

The suggestion that someone else did this to his video and put it on YouTube make sense to me. None of the imaginings here make me think a film of someone saying numbers would make him an attractive option as a critic for anyone, including the various bogeymen whose existence people project.

Isn't it an odd diction -- "I'm xx points on that." ?
Not if you embody the points system.
Yes, that's my feeling. You just have to feel the cosmic vibrations. He's a medium.

Somehow, I don't think he sees himself as a middle man.
Rather, the man.

He needs some good B-roll.

No, it is his official video, posted by him (or the official screen name for his web site, anyway). Amazing.

I suppose if one had a Subtle Knife it would be possible to visit the universe in which people film video like this about themselves and then display it publicly.
