Not a huge big deal but...

This doesn't seem like a big deal from where I stand. Back labels are much larger, and sometimes they replace non-export back labels that contain useful information (such as, in Champagne, disgorgement date, dosage, etc.). That is a true handicap for American bottles.

i don't really have a problem with the importer being identified on the front label. but in this case its just seems to be the focal point instead of the producer. kind of like one of my kids screaming "look at me. look at me..."

its just tacky.

for wines that aren't champagne what else would go on the back label that you can't glean from the web?

well, at least marty's son won't have to ask his dad who brings it in (assuming he can already read) - but will this info make marty's son want his dad to buy the wine or not?

I think this follows the natural rise and eventual decline and fall of the major American importer. Kermit is just following in the footsteps of Robert Chadderdon.

I think it is a little tacky but a lot of other importers beat him to it long ago. Chadderdon, as Nicholas mentioned, also Wilson Daniels had or has some pretty prominent neck labels and who knows what else. Probably quite a few others as well.

I now have a picture, but can't upload. It's fairly disfiguring.

I have a cold and am not tasting well, but the wine coats my tongue and won't let go.

The logical implication of this is that he means to sell the business, and this is about establishing the big brand identity.

Of course, that could just be the cynical investment banker's analysis.

Kermit wants to retire, so the business needed to be repositioned as Kermit Lynch the brand, rather than the man.

And yeah, it's tacky.

Um, yeah, like Wildman, C&E, the old Schoonamaker, etc. In fact, in the old days, it was pretty much ubiquitous.

Below is a pic of the new and old label of the Foillard. Fwiw, I'm not a fan of the new look and have gotten negative feedback from some customers. I prefer the traditional back label approach and even an extra, tasteful necker, but don't mess up the producer's front label.

So how did people feel when Martine used to put her name and block M on Henri Jayer labels: http://blog.naver.com/PostView.nhn?blogId=mmatom&logNo=30076526430&redirect=Dlog&widgetTypeCall=true ?

Any offended parties can be relieved of the pain of having to look at those ruined Jayer wines by shipping them to me.
I'll be happy to one up you by offering 50cents on the dollar for all the Henri Jayer wines.
It could happen but I don't recall any customer in our store bitch about what we are discussing here.

not half as bad. to me, because it's at the bottom, and the logo / typeface are smaller than jayer's.
So, you're willing to overlook the fact that the logo is in red on a largely two-tone lable and the logo is at least as large, arguably larger, than anything else on the label. Chacun son got.

The ITB crowd agrees with Brad.

I was able to make both Fifi and Jorge jump tonight by offering them a glass of Kermit Lynch, er, Foillard.

My Hollywood agent tells me that Kermit shouldn't have gotten above-the-title credit on the '09 Cote du Py.

My agent always fights for credit above the title for me.

And my career's on the rocks.

I say we start a boycott. Someone let KL know we'll destroy them. This is so American. The ultimate sellout. A small standard front label below, but nothing more!

I note, no KL on the front of the Lapierre's for 09. Interesting the variety - very small on Thevenet. Did he have to negotiate every label?

This is an outrage!

Btw, how is the Foillard? Just took my case home today.
