Happy to stage a Brussels jeebus. I have never been to the Café des Spores. It plays on the natural understatement of the Belgians, which have been ruled by others for most of its history and prides themselves for not making a fuzz about the good things.
Yes Brussels (and generally Belgium) is mad about its food, yes you can eat some of the best food in the world (Seagrill remains a stunner of a fish restaurant), or have a humble Moules-Frites in a great 1-Star restaurant with proper old-fashioned and impeccable service for E24. Yes, there is a scene with loads of trendy restaurants, bars, etc.
But, as Victor already alluded to, you can have as much fun, of course with different food, in Paris, Madrid, London, Düsseldorf (Japanese!), Venice, Amsterdam, ...
Too many great places, too little stomach space to enjoy them all ... THE great tragedies of our post-modern enjoyment society.
