So, what did you learn with Clive?

Levi, I doubt that there would be much argument against this idea. Pretty much a given to the extent that a generality can be advanced.

. . . . . . Pete

There is also the consideration that a lot of people using wine for one off celebrations don't grasp as much about what is before them as some others might. Which is the bigger loss?

Yes, that is a consideration too. But I still think the ideal would be something like a knowledgeable and sensitive person consuming these bottles over a longer interval with a meal.

Sometimes it is nice to try a bunch of wines with a bunch of people and hear what everybody has to say about them.

I hate that. They're always wrong. It's important to be right about wine.

I sometimes go home emotionally drained after trying this, though not always. I can imagine it would be different for a pro like you - I can hear the music but I have to listen very carefully over a long period. I sometimes get overwhelmed at those kinds of events, and even when I don't, I never feel like I got as much out of the wines as I would have in the quieter medium though.

It definitely takes a real effort of concentration, and it's easy to feel that you are inadequately appreciating great wines, but if you really want to make a vintage generalization, say, there is nothing like having had a good friend open a dozen '64s for you in one night to give you a view.

I'm looking forward to having a half dozen tomorrow night actually. Any learnings to pass along. Don't know what will be there yet except there's at least one Musigny and a Vosne Romanée. No idea from whom. But will report back soon.

At least we didn't make up silly stories about people coming back from the dead.

As the owners and manipulators of the media and entertainment industries, we invented Zombie's to scare you WASPs shitless and extract money from your over-stuffed wallets at the same time.
