Oswaldo Costa
Chambers had a Jo Landron tasting yesterday. It started with the wine I liked best, always a problem because then the rest seem to go downhill, even if from a high peak. SFJoe and the Monkey were present, and won’t let me lie. Country Joe and the Fish weren’t, so they won’t care what I say.
2009 Louvetrie Muscadet Amphibolite Nature
Lemon, apple cider, mineral. Lovely texture and satisfying weight. Superb. Cowabunga muscadet.
2010 Louvetrie Muscadet Amphibolite Nature
More subdued nose, with anis, white flowers and a waxy chablisienne note. Less attractive mouthfeel and a slightly too bitter finish. The terrible 2s here are off to an early start.
2010 Louvetrie Muscadet Domaine
Very aromatic, with a strong lemon note. Nice structure, but, again, the finish is too bitter. A 2010 pattern or a function of youth? Very acid requires no assist from very bitter.
2009 Louvetrie Muscadet Hermine d’Or
Lovely, my second favorite, similar to the Amphibolite, though I prefer the latter.
2009 Louvetrie Muscadet Le Fief du Breil
Subdued nose, lovely minerality, better balance than the 2010s.
2008 Louvetrie Muscadet Le Fief du Breil
Strange cheesy note, pitched in Hollywood as a cross between cream cheese and sour cream. Might pair well with goat cheese. Allright, I didn’t like this so much. Is it ambiguous to call a muscadet a lemon?
