'03 Truchot Clos Sorbes?

I love both Verset and Truchot, so I thought I had to post something...but I really don't have anything of substance to say :)

Thank Howard for the run...and whoever was trying to manipulate the auction market...Maureen tried to offset Howard's very public enthusiasm. :)

I'd give an '04 MSD VV for some Verset...Perhaps other 04s too...but I probably can't find them :(

The bottle I had of this last night was a far different experience from the 2004 Clos Sorbes I had about a month ago. The nose had all together different characteristics - instead of being driven by dirt, meat and florals this was driven primarly by lush red fruit with roasted bay leaf, and subtle coffee tones underneath. I drank this with a friend of mine that isn't overly serious about wine and he said that he would have pegged this as a Californian Pinot Noir if he had tasted this blind...and I would agree.

It also had interesting differences when it came to the body of the wine. Instead of being lean and powerful, this was lush, dense and a touch flabby. Overall, it was a fine wine...but didn't compare to the etheral 2004 Clos Sorbes I enjoyed before.

So you say the 2004 Clos Sorbes is worth opening now?

Keith - Want to trade some Verset for Truchot? :-P
What'll ya give me for Alain Verset....

Keith - I just laughed because I almost got trapped with the Flicklinger wines email too. I felt like I missed out BIG time until I heard what they ended up shipping. They def. advertised it being Noel Verset.

It was drinking beautifully well, but there's no need to rush drinking this wine. Plenty of structure to last a long time...and I imagine patience would be rewarded.

Mark, contact me if you want to unload your 04 truchots... But I have no Verset.

I did try (in vain) to dampen Howard's (and chet kern's) PDA towards Truchot. But I think the pricing problem started, like many do, with two idiots, er, male burg lovers in the room at an auction each determined to have the small lot of Truchot on offer. After that inflated buy, prices everywhere shot up.

Matt - I have '90, '98, '99 and '03 Verset. What's your Truchot lineup?

Verset jeebus! Bryan's bringing all the wines.

98 and 99 ? OK, I want to be invited. Seriously. I'll bring freaking Chave or something.

Had another fun experience with them a couple of years ago where they advertised JL Chave, and shipped over Bernard Chave Hermitage (that too for something already in the inventory).

'03 Truchot Clos Sorbes?Has anyone had this lately? I noticed it's on the wine list of the restaurant I'm going to in Seattle this weekend, but given the challenges of 2003 wasn't sure if it's worth the tariff.

thanks
Matt, if I may ask, where did you have dinner?
