Foillard Cote du Py '09

I've yet to enjoy a bottle of this wine. Like most producers' '09s, I don't think this will ever be at the level of the '07. But I do think it will be somewhat better in 18 to 24 months' time, and I don't plan to open any more until then.

I had one that was pretty enjoyable a month or two ago. It seemed to be shutting down. The exuberant fruit of youth was chilling out -- it was too much for me right on release -- but hadn't completely gone away. Don't know how they're doing now.

I agree with Slaton and would be hands-off for at least a year. I have 1 bottle of '07 left that screams out to me! I don't know how much longer I can hold out...

I've not tasted this since January, even though I had meant to, and it was already shutting down by then.

But to say that it was never enjoyable?? To date, I can't think of an 09 beaujolais that had impressed me more.

I thought this was fantastic on release and way better than the 2007. I haven't had it in months, but some other '09s have been pretty nice lately - if you have enough, it might be worth a try.

What else have you been drinking? I haven't had much (mostly Lapierre), which were delicious, but... shutting down.

I could see 2009 Foillard surpassing 2007, but I preferred the early experiences with the 2007 more.

I had a glass or two of the '09 Chamonard Morgon yesterday and it was quite nice. Crunchy with nice acids. I'd be happy to open this without reservation. Re: '09 Foillard, I'm also holding off.

My last five bottles of 09 B opened at home have all been Chanrion. Over about 6 weeks, I think. A little closed on the nose, but fireworks on the palate, and good to follow over a few hours.

Tasted a bunch of '09s with Jim last week and a lot were closed, but better than I remembered initially.

'09 Metras Printemps on the 4th was superb. Best bottle of it that I've had; focused but open, layered and supple. Quite compelling, I thought.

That's the problem, I only have a couple of bottles and wouldn't want to open one now and not be able to enjoy it.

I'm not Jim, but I have had the 2010 Coudert Clos de la Roilette and the 2010 Lapierre Raisins Gaulois - both are terrific. I also really liked the 09 Foillard Cote du Py on release.

Thanks, I also have some Lapierre Morgon '10. I'll give that a try and wait some more for the Foillard.

I had a bottle of the '10 Lapierre the other week and loved it. Downed three quarters of it before I even blinked. Really snappy and cut through a fatty bit of steak with ease.

I'll have one tonight and report back.
