Rest well, Joe Dressner

Such sad news. I hope his family and friends can find peace. No matter how prepared I think I am for such news, it turns out to be not enough. He imparted an important life lesson to me the last time we met. That being "Slow down!". I'm grateful. And richer in so many ways since our paths crossed.

In the old days they would just say "He didn't suffer fools gladly" and leave it at that. Now everyone is worried about libel...

Well, Joe sometimes gladly made fools suffer, which isn't quite the same thing.

We left an extra glass of Pinon on the table Saturday evening, just in case a thirsty spirit (Joe, not Elijah) happened by.

In Spanish, a brief tribute.
Thank you, Victor, that's good work.

I would expand your definition of spoof, though. There are many worse failings than growing grapes in places with too much sunshine. David Darlington's new book, An Ideal Wine gives Leo McCloskey plenty of rope and a good description of the true horrors of spoof. The possibilities are vast, and the ends as sinister as can be believed.

A really nice piece by jazz musician Anthony Wilson. Thanks to Roberto Rogness for bringing it to my attention.
Nice.

It's funny how Zaggy always barks on the way out. What use is a warning when you're leaving?
