2009 Marcel Lapierre Morgon
Quite silky in the mouth, but with a fair dose of Brett, there is both higher tones of clove and just a bit of yuck band-aide. Plenty of red fruit and Morgon spice mixed in. Complex and delicious if you don't mind the B yeast flavors. I might drink these sooner then wait for the Brett to really bloom.

2009 Domaine Diochon Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes
Maybe coming out of a closed phase. Dark berry fruit framed by nice tannin and pretty good acids for the vintage. I used 3/4ths of the bottle to make boeuf borgognone, the rest was great with the meal. A little more fruit then typical from Diochon, but not over the top.

2006 Domaine des Terres Dorées Morgon
Wow, this was drinking really well. Expressive but not over the top aromas of blue fruit mixed with typical Morgon spiciness.
Brun's wines seem a bit more structured then most Beaujolais, and this one has lovely firm tannins that frame the wine perfectly. Good acidity especially for an 06. Will last but very enjoyable at the moment.

2005 Chéreau-Carré Muscadet Cuvée des Ceps Centenaires Chateau de Chasseloir
On first pour all yeast and minerals, a little citrus later, more orange then the typical Muscadet lime and tonic. Slightly rounder warm year Muscadet.
Really shines on day 2, incredible depth. The old vine concentration shows up.

N.V. Laherte Frères Champagne Brut Tradition
I think this is from 2006 grapes. This is really hitting its groove at least in the 375ml format that I have been drinking. None of the sharp metallic notes of earlier bottles. Still a big presence from the Pinot Meunier, which I like here.

2002 André-Michel Brégeon Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie Reserve
Fabulous bottle. This is still a very young wine, pale color, soaring and quite typical typical Muscadet aromas, and just the right amount of acid.
Should drink well for many years. Worked well with fresh pesto made with basil and green onion tops.

2002 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Chambolle-Musigny
Very pretty. Just a touch of oak spice, nothing that detracts. Red fruits, lithe, tart, elegant. Lovely nose, with similar flavors that drop off a tad at the finish. Could hold a little longer based on this bottle, but no crime to drink now.

I am completely freaked about the 09 Lapierreconsidering how much of it I have...
I know, I was thinking about you when I drank it.
Was the bottle an "S" or an "N"?
And what was the provenance?

Mine have not shown brett.
Ditto. But, I do think I remember seeing people mentioning issues between different markets/different importers.

08 lapierre morgon was bretty last summer, an 'S' bottle from a restaurant, for what it's worth.

I try to drink lapierre young due to the high number of bottles that seem to show Brett.

East coast/west coast issue I often see.

Of course, the statistics are stronger now that Crossroads is closed.

I happened to walk past their old location this weekend. The sign is still up, but the interior has been all torn out. No sign of new owners yet.

Maybe if they wrap it in plastic sheeting for a couple days they can get the taint out....

Marc, looks like you're drinking some good stuff there. Hope all's well. I had one bottle of that '09 Lapierre and it was excellent, so I bought more and a mag. Now I hear all kinds of stories about this wine. Here's hoping the rest of mine are good. Wine can be difficult this way.

Say it ain't so, you can't possibly mean Banana? How can indigenous taste like banana (unless Lapierre is in Panama)?

Sorry to hear about this. The last one I had was shutting down but still beautiful. I've never gotten brett from Lapierre; I tend to drink them young.

I tried the Chasseloir for the first time in 09 and wasn't swept away, but maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance. It's easy to forget that the good Muscadets can take a few years to show their stuff, and I am not the world's most perceptive taster of young wines.

Is the Bregeon Reserve the same bottling that, in other years, is captioned 'Gorge' or 'Gorgeois?" I got to try the 04 a couple of weeks ago: man, what good wine.

S

As to the provenance, it was bought through the local WA distributor for Kermit Lynch, when the wine was first released out here.

Ian, the Bregeon 02 reserve had extended time on lees, but I am not sure if it is the same bottling as the one labelled Gorge or Gorgeois. That is a good question. Also it reminds me I have to order some of that 04 Gorgeois.

Oswaldo, yes B yeast flavor, I meant brett
It was not a poopy kid of brett and we did enjoy the bottle, it added complexity.

3L PARTY!!!

ouch, not good news. I have a couple mags of this and was hoping to age it a bit too.
I keep my cellar pretty cold, but if it's already bloomed...

4.5L party?

I think that Marcel bottled foudre to foudre; it is possible that the brett issues vary throughout the bottling run based on this. We've of course had long discussions about this before, and about the southern sojourn the West Coast wines go through before arriving here. I don't know. The 09 is the first Lapierre I've encountered brett in, except for sans soufre bottles. It is a damn shame as it is a wonderful wine.

I would suspect that larger format bottles come from the top foudres in the cellar and may be different than the 750s. I think the Seattle gang needs to research this question at our next gathering.

It has been painful to pass my 09 Lapierre mag/3L stash and wonder what lurks within...
