So in that case, the speakeasy folks are not as concerned about maximizing profit. Which is also the attitude one gets in many French wine establishments.
Of course I know it's more complicated than that. As imported wine in the US will carry all sorts of additional costs and have a different place in our culture than Beaujolais wine in Villié-Morgon.
Nonetheless, one can't help but be struck by the greater accessibility to the average earner in comparison to what happens in the US, especially those by-the-glass prices. I mean Foillard et al by the bottle in wine shops are more than what the average French person wants to spend on wine. But 2-3 euros per glass is just so accessible!
