Montevertine Il Sodaccio Question

I was looking through winebid and noticed that they have some bottles of 1985 Montevertine Il Sodaccio up for auction.

I don't think Montevertine produces the Il Sodaccio cuvee anymore. I looked at the label and it says it is 88% Sangiovese and 12% Caniolo and is classifed a "vino da tavola."

Anyone have any info on this wine? I'm not planning to bid (right now around $48, hint, hint), I'm just curious. I'm wondering why Montevertine no longer produces this wine.

A very nice wine, the 1985. Maybe you should plan on bidding. The last vintage was 1998. On hiatus since then, as per Jay's comment - I think the plants suffered from some disease.

Personally, I placed a bid on one of the 2 lots. I last had it about 4 or 5 years ago at which point the wine (or at least that bottle) was on a gentle downslope but still lovely after about a half hour. It had shown as dead on first pour but woke up with air.

Edited - now that I prod my failing memory I believe it was the 1985 Montevertine Riserva I had, not the Sodaccio. My bad.

Where does/did this cuvee fit in their overall hierarchy, I mean relative to the Pian del Ciampolo/Montvertine/Pergola Torte?

Equivalent to Montevertine Riserva, thought as a single vineyard some might argue it is more distinctive.

I generally prefer it slightly.
