TN (sorta): 1980-87 Ridge Geyserville

This flight was a bust. Some of you recall that was time when the winemaking paradigm for Zinfandel was to make it a "food friendly" wine. That turned out to be a bsd move. They were generally under-ripe and insipid.

Take that and age the wines for over 2 decades. One wine (1987) showed some depth of fruit and palate interest. It still wasn't as good as most of the wines from the first tasting. The others, at best, were tart and simple.

1988-95 on March 1. Geyserville seemed to regain its footing in the 90s so I'm expecting more out of these.

I brought mags of the '85 at holiday dinners and they were always the first things finished.

Gone for a decade now, of course.

I was wondering how this decade would show. I never loved Geyserville in the '80s. Bummer, but I just reread the notes on the '70s and that made up for it.

Granted it was ten years ago, but when some NY locals organized a Geyserville dinner, I do recall liking the '84 and '85 and back then the '87 was probably my favorite after the '91.

I just picked up an '87 and '91 Geyserville recently, so I hope to eventually get an older Geyserville gig together.
