i think there is maybe a deeper point: that many a wine that has a natural cycle of maturation will taste like drano at time t=n, and this is not a sign of bad quality.
indeed, one could go further, and argue that it is trying to avoid having a natural cycle of maturation, and avoid having a wine ever taste anything but acceptable, that has led to the hegemony that all those god-fucking-awful stepford-wives-wines enjoy when it comes to the popular perception of quality.
then add into that mix the notion that if any half-way serious wine's eternal quality, given its showing at time t=n, has been conclusively decided and denounced from the pulpit by yaniger and the snotty monkey, yet has revealed other virtues at t=n+y, then the only conclusion one can draw is, yes, as ever, there is signal, and there is noise... and then there is more noise.
makes me think i wish i could get me more.
that, or else wtf?
