Two different people last night had been following the whole foofaraw and decided to blind us on Texier reds.
The 1999 Hermitage (you all know the rumors as to the source of the fruit) showed dull and a bit heavy. Either far too young or not going anywhere. Nothing like my last bottle.
The 2001 Cote Rotie showed gorgeously. Minerally, complex, floral, young. Lots of people were reaching to get another pour before the wine was unveiled on the assumption that it was something grand. And we were right.
