Dinner with Wines

We had 2 other couples over and Barb cooked an amazing dinner

first...1995 Veuve-Cliquot La Grande Dame...badly corked...
Noted by my 17 YO dtr who was offered a "birthyear wine"...."THIS IS REALLY BAD"

to replace it...
1985 Veuve-Cliquot-Ponsardin Brut Rose, alc??....pale salmon....a bit past prime with a bit of quinine and bitterness that is no longer balanced by the fruit

2004 Domaine William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos, alc 13%....singing...quite beautiful with seared scallops

For Dinner we had 2 Reds with lamb chops and mushroom risotto accompanied by roasted beets and butter carmelized brussel sprouts

1982 Chateau La Consiellante Pomerol, alc??...some browning and clearing...decanted...improved over 2 hrs....fully mature and perhaps starting to slide down the "back side of the hill"

1999 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Rouge, alc 13%.....a bit tight and not as good as a recent bottle we had.... still very good with the lamb

bonus wine...
2009 Bergstrom Cumberland Reserve Oregon Pinot Noir, alc 14.1%....nice and bright and crisp...showing well...

2002 Pfeffingen Scheurebe Beerenauslese...alc 9%, Res Sugar 15.7%....impressive, esp with Barb's Pumpkin Pound Cake with Brown butter glaze...

I was quite surprised by how much I liked a recent '97. Showed less woody than my memory of its youth. Another '97 (in the cellar) showed much more rustic.

It is important to drink these at very low barometric pressure.

The one I opened when you opened the '96 ?

I liked it, or at least more than I had expected to.

There are decongestants that can achieve this for you on a personal basis.
Oh? As powerful as this?
Even your sinuses don't cover 8 states.

Yes. It was seriously low pressure.
