2005 Domaine de Roally Vire Clesse

Unwilling to share his secret stash of grenache-based wines, Jay Miller prevaricates. Soon, he will change his name from The Good Jay Miller to The Jay Miller of Many Colors, his palate corrupted from using the Durand of Orthanc.

We drank red, white and brown (the beautiful Valdespino NV Jerez Palo Cortado Calle Ponce VOS). One of my favorites along with the 2008 Dublere MSD Blanchard and the 1988 Bize Savigny Liards. The 2010 Dublere MSD Blanchard started out neck and neck but the 2008 really blossomed over the course of the evening. Though the 2011 Lauer riesling was also remarkable now that I think of it. Some good Spatleses too but I kept going back to the earlier wines.

But then I was confronted by a terrible red eye! When I looked in the mirror this morning.

Well, not really, but it fits the theme.

More Sherry on Monday!

let's have more detail on the two blanchards, please

The first was beautiful and aromatic. The second was a bit denser (though still in a generally lighter style) and showed a very attractive incipient complexity that I hoped would blossom but instead the wine ended up closing down over the course of the evening. That night the nod went without doubt to the '08. I wouldn't count out the 2010 for the long haul though.
