The Meat

You really can't inform yourself about your evaluations. You can educate your tastes up to a certain point. But that just changes your tastes to educated ones. If they don't match uneducated ones, your evaluations won't do them any good.

I have found that the more theory I have, the less interested in I am in persuading anybody of my own evaluations. As a character in a movie said, I know what art is, I just don't know what I like.
 
Diane and I ate an early supper at la Ciccia last night; a very fresh green salad, lightly dressed with a faint hint of anchovies; spicy octopus stew, and sea bass fillets with tapenade. A little flat bread to accompany and a semifreddo to finish.
The wine was the 2012 Argiolas, Nuragus di Cagliari, S'elegas, which, once it warmed a bit, fit well with the food. Sweet fruit and savory elements, nicely balanced.
Massimo and Lorella treated us like family, we enjoyed talking with the adjoining table and each other, the weather was cool and the day's stress just melted away. And the food . . . no pretense, all flavor.
It may sound a bit odd but we are now talking about finding a place in the neighborhood.

Jim, I genuinely wish you all the luck in the world in finding a place in SF. Just bring cash. Lots of it. Based on what my stepdaughter and her husband went through trying to buy in SF, most home sales are being paid in full, all cash. Lots of bidding over the asking price, too. The housing market is completely unreal now.

Although not Italian, Philip knows the menus (food & wine) better than perhaps even Lorella and Massimo ... at least in terms of BTG pairings.

Taking my father and brother there tomorrow night in fact. Neither have been in SF since 2006 and have never been to La Ciccia. Looking forward to introducing family to family.
