Traditions are still being upheld, albeit in new venues.

Good grief. What is thought process here? "If we just go on pretending maybe it will all go away?"

Look! they found more '45!

The level of denial among at least certain in the collector class is amazing -- one can only say that it demonstrates that for them, it's not about the wine.
Their loyal scribe has the strongest motives for denial of all of them, of course.

But ... he's a published wine critic!

Or at least it shouldn't be.

I found this Steinberger piece to be an interesting insight into the mindset of one great collector. I've never heard any accusation made against WJ in any of this, but he's also ready to bring out mags of '21 or '47 Petrus for dinner.

Nicely finessed; isn't this just what to say to an unbearable but useful part of your distribution system?

Similarly, ""An amazing man." - Veronique Drouhin"

Or--"You are a chap worth knowing, an amazing character." - Kasper Gutman to Sam Spade in The Maltese Falcon

Reminds me of the Mad Magazine of my youth that did a satiric comparison of movie blurbs and the critical reviews that were blurbed.

I've not read the piece (dentist's orders), but is there a "medium plus" -- fb ?

Cornwell mentions him as a pal and customer of Rudy, and Wasserman and others in their eroticparker posts referred to him, in one post I recall, egging Rudy on to pull out a(nother) bottle of 1945 R-C from his (magic) cellar at the end of a triumphant evening.

Or, you could just put in on the list at RN 74.

IOW, dude has a bit of an interest in not having all his wine seen as fraudulent.

As it happens, I was able to pre-decant my first contribution, it was quite tasty. My second bottle (for a friend) was totally at risk, and I wouldn't have wanted to see it in my glass or anyone else's if it had been corked.

i thought the policy was to slip teh waitstaff a prophylactic dbl mag of peppiere, in case of substitutions?
