Not that I'm in the market for this, but wtf is the deal with not bottling it in a clavelin?! Just doesn't seem right.

Legal issues?

Do you mean the legality of importing a wine into the US in a clavelin or something else? If the former, it's not an issue in California, but I don't know about other states.

Is this something new? I've seen them in a local wine shop as recently as 6 months ago.

It's not usually enforced but there is is a stupid US law that accepted limitations of a stupid EU law that codified acceptable bottle sizes. The EU law was repealed but I never heard that the US law was similarly modified.

Here is an old article talking about it:

Bad Clavelin

Curious how the proceeds of higher prices in this case are shared between vigneron and those bringing the wines to market.
I think Ganevat's prices have gone up in France a bit, but in NY they added an extra layer of distribution. In CA they went to Kermit.

So more money for everyone!

Well, except for me...

Have the prices gone crazy outside of the US as well or is this just Kermit tax? This was in my inbox recently.

...
Ganevat Savignin Mon Pere 2002 magnum ($299.95) $249 special
Ganevat Savignin Mon Pere 2002 ($149.95) $119 special
Ganevat Savignin-Chardonnay Oregane 2010 ($59.95) $49 special
...

Maybe they should use the extra money to pay a proofreader. Savignin? Sheesh.

The bottle is probably a 520 advertised as a 375.

Nope, they're listed as 620s on the store website.
Nobody really cares, but I'm guessing they come through as 750s in customs to pay the correct amount of tax.

People care, we can't get one of producers to send us any because of the backlash he might get legally.

Cory meant nobody cares about the fact that they paid tax on a larger bottle.

That's what I meant. Standard Vin Jaune bottle.

Ganevat Plein Sud 2010The most lovely bottle of Plein Sud I've been lucky enough to taste. CO2 spritz quickly disappears after a decant. All lovely dried flower petals, dirt and blood/iron on the nose. In the mouth it dances and spreads surprising light flavor everywhere. Mouthwatering acidity and raspberry and more iron. Really hard to stop drinking it. Even better with rancho gordo reboseros cooked with a couple dried chipotles. A trousseau to remember.

I opened one of these on Saturday night as a result of this note, well done! Lots of dirt and minerals

And last night's bottle was undrinkable. Refermenting. Alas.
