Horrible news. Hail devastates Vouvray.

Ouch! What a freakin' disaster for a bunch of really hard-working vignerons. Let's figure out something to do for M. Pinon, who among many virtues is also a really, really nice guy (in my limited experience).

Buy futures of his 2014 Vouvray and fizz?
I'd be in for a few cases.

Careful!! One vigneron is quoted as saying “Even the harvest next year is compromised because the branches will not have time to mature by the end of the summer.”

Yes. If the canes are damaged (which they are), it won't be so easy to get fruit in 2014.

Well, then 2015 futures.

I don't know how kickstarter works internationally, but we could set one up as trustees and then paypal the money to them.

I'd like to find out if the Baudry's were severely affected as well.

There are tax issues (plural with good cause) with giving money - trust me, I know from the frost experience last year. It's simplest to buy the wines already in circulation, as a show of support, and to let the importer/distributor know that you're standing ready to buy subsequent releases as they come into the market. Yes, I am a self-interested importer and distributor, so feel free to disregard.

Even subtracting X% taxes that's still (100-X)% net to the vigneron that can be directly put to use. Worth looking into. I'd like to do more than just buy the wine (but of course I will do that too).

No, this is a really good idea, especially since it requires no special organizational skills, and nobody can ever criticize it for being mismanaged. Buy a case of Vouvray today, for a better tomorrow.

If he has the stock on hand perhaps he could do a deluxe release of a few recent vintages at higher than market prices. Something like a special '08-'11 Hail Relief Release at 2-4x normal pricing?

Or perhaps some sweet wine from Pinon can enter the market? We all know he makes it, even if it's not always brought in.

Not to mention the elusive sec!

Someone could mule him the cash, of course.
