Horrible news. Hail devastates Vouvray.

Thanks Mike - are the wines here yet?

btw the 08 regular moelleux is as electric as .sasha says. A few bottles still at Chambers I think.

But these are a level up, plus with added bottle age. I plan to try them too.

Don, the wines aren't here yet, and I'n not sure when they are supposed to arrive. This offering was described as coming from LDM and their GA and SC distributor, so I suspect that there will be some differences, at least with pricing, in different markets, though I understand that the distributor reduced its markups significantly.

I have a couple of the 2005 Cuvée Botrytis waiting for the fall shipping season, and may need to add some of the 2008 Moelleux to the pile.

Will keep an eye out.

If you open an 05 botrytis soon, a double decant and several days in the fridge might be a good plan.

Re the 2008 - not to mention on the BTG list at racines.

The real question is whether to drink or agethe older ones, I'm leaning towards the latter. And when/whether CSW will get them in of course.

As an incorrigible wine hoarder, my plan is to drink other people's bottles in the short term, then share mine with more age once everyone else runs out.

I bought another pack. Though I'd said that I expected pricing to be different for different markets, I didn't expect that the local price would be a 60% markup from the CSW pricing. Time for some conversations with the local supply chain . . . .

Has anyone seen pricing in other markets on this offering, and if so, do you mind sharing the prices you've seen?

It sounds like, unlike CSW, they were taking some profit on their offer.

It sounds like CSW, LDM, and David Bowler are not marking the wine up at all. Aside from credit card fees, it is all going to Pinon (the original point, after all, being to raise money for the domaine in hard times). Perhaps in other markets there is less altruism.

i wonder, though, if $750 still goes to the Pinons regardless of markup.

From the CSW flyer:

"The price is set by François at $750 and the intention is that all the money will go directly to the Pinon family. There will be no commissions or profits added for us as part of our and your effort to help him through a stretched financial period. The quantity is limited."

yes, thanks, i saw this earlier today. i guess i was wondering about wether or not its less altruistic to buy the wine from a wholesaler and pay the $750, which goes right to the Pinons, but then mark the wine up for resale. my initial thought is, i dont really see a problem with that.

The agreement was that the supply chain would not take normal mark-ups, just cost so that the deal got to the consumer at a good price maximizing what went to Francois.

Sheesh. Do you think he believes what he writes or is he just working on some kind of intertubez fame (...and there's no such thing as bad publicity)?
