Loire Hotel Recommendations

I have friends thinking of going to the Loire Valley. Are there any hotels or other forms of lodging you could recommend?

Any sightseeing and restaurant recommendations would also be appreciated.

Thanks

Yule, the Loire is kinda big, and suits many budgets. A really expensive hotel in Sancerre won't do much for the students in Nantes. Any more hints?

I think they might want to spend a day or three out in the Loire on a relatively moderate budget (they are in their early to mid-30s). They aren't looking for hostels, but luxury hotels are probably not an option for them.

I'm assuming they are going to be visiting Paris, so locations that don't require too much travel away from that city (I'm guessing Nantes might be too far away for them).

I also imagine wine is not going to be their primary focus. I think Chateaus and general sightseeing would be their primary focus with visits to accessible winemakers and dining at good, but affordable, restaurants an added bonus.

Sorry for the lack of details in the OP. Thanks in advance!

The Best Western in Saumur is totally pleasant. Good restos within a short walk, and not so far from many touristic sights.

I am very eager to visit the champignon museum, and still haven't. And the tanks!

I stayed in the hotel in Saumur at the base of the Chateau once not too long ago. The Anne d'Anjou or some thing like that. Not expensive and in a grand old house.

The mushroom museum isn't that exciting.

The Touraine is a pretty good area to stay in for general touristy stuff. Some barges offer a pleasant experience.

Saumur's a great town.

I highly recommend a visit to the Hyper Carrefour (I think) on the north edge of town. Crazy wine section, with lots of interest older stuff. At least there was a decade ago.
