I think they might want to spend a day or three out in the Loire on a relatively moderate budget (they are in their early to mid-30s). They aren't looking for hostels, but luxury hotels are probably not an option for them.
I'm assuming they are going to be visiting Paris, so locations that don't require too much travel away from that city (I'm guessing Nantes might be too far away for them).
I also imagine wine is not going to be their primary focus. I think Chateaus and general sightseeing would be their primary focus with visits to accessible winemakers and dining at good, but affordable, restaurants an added bonus.
