Wow, how odious is this?

I have viewed CNBC with contempt since the days when I used to be a guest--all they care about is hyping the day's latest event and pumping the hot stock. But having the total crooks on to tell you to run out and buy DRC? Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, as you might say this morning, that is going pretty far.

I wonder if he wants to buy back some of the fraudulent wine he's sold *me* as a future investment?

One aspect he does not discuss/consider is whether JK and AMC may have entered into an agreement with prosecutors extending the statute of limitations. (I'm not sure this can be done in criminal cases, but it frequently is done in civil cases.) The advantage to JK and AMC is that it avoids adverse publicity resulting from an indictment; the advantage to the government is that it can continue to gather evidence and, especially, it can observe how the Koch case plays out.

One of the supposed advantages of the "information age" and the free flow of low cost information from many sources is supposed to be the unmasking of fraudulent practices or dubious claims such as the auctioned wines featured in this thread. The information age cheerleaders believe that the availability of diverse information on the internet will eliminate Stieglitzian information asymmetry. Well, here is an interesting test case. There is plenty of easily available information that should drive down the perceived value or quality of Acker Merrill auction products, unless they take some dramatic new steps to guarantee authenticity. It will be an interesting 2014 for the behavioral economics of the wine auction market.
 
There are some agents in HK still buying at auction to sell on to Mainland Chinese, so I do not think the market will weaken. There's not been much in the Mandarin wine press on this issue (although most of the papers covered the case via the wires). It's profoundly depressing.
 
You would think the telegraph would have reached London by now, but commercial and perhaps psychological motives dictate not.

The old Upton Sinclair saw surely applies:
