That SOMM movie

That SOMM movieCan't find Oswaldo's post about it.

Watched it tonight.

It reminds me of Eric Asimov's book, but it could be the sequel and be called, "How to Hate Wine."

What a grim death march.

But the goats were great.

At least you can appreciate the pain I go through when I demand that you serve me champagne really cold.

The only redeeming feature of the movie is that it did NOT feature Gil Lempert-Schwarz. He showed up in Red Obsession, which was otherwise fun to look at.

A thoughtful piece from Matt Straus. More first person and more humane than outsider reviews.

There you go. I will hold out for Patrick to show some grey hair, before I order a bottle at Pearl & Ash.

I was in a restaurant this week, informal in setting but fancy in food, and my server said to us, unprompted, "and don't worry, I'm a certified sommelier."

Of course, that was my first worry of the evening. Anyhow, the place has a brilliant list and I didn't need any help, but it was an unwelcome jolt.

Would you have felt better had he announced that he was an uncertified sommelier?

Without a doubt.

I know I always worry when the first thing a DBA applicant says is "I'm a certified DBA".
