What did you drink tonight?

Actually, the 06 pavelot pv les v. is quite excellent. At least the first four bottles of it i have drunk were excellent. So fuck you, Ian.

That's the official welcome.

What a welcome! Christ! I guess, to paraphrase Groucho, I should want to be a part of a club that doesn't want me?

FYI, Pavelot lost the lease on the PV 1er Verg and SLB 1er Narbantons to his cousin in 2010 and picked up some SLB 1er Lavieres. So, whether or not the 2006 was good, you won't be getting any more after 2010. Who's fucked now?

That is ok. I am not buying any more young burgundy.

Who makes the wine, Chez Cousin? If it's Hugues, then we're good.

I apologize for muffing that one: At Domaine Jean-Marc & Hugues Pavelot, they los Narbantons and Les Verg to a cousin (which one, I'm not sure). Hugues is the current Paveot in charge of the Domaine once run by Pere Pavelot (Jen-Marc).

Of course not, you're spending all your time talking other people into buying it instead.

Anyway, speaking of Burgundy, here area few

2006 Mugnier Marechale - is another indicator that many 2006s have shut down. Hard as a rock.

2004 Cathiard Malconsorts - Some delicious wine marred by GMs. Not horribly offputting but a definite flaw for me.

1983 Prince Florent de Merode Pommard Clos de la Patiere - gorgeous perfumed nose, earthy, very nice wine

1983 Prince Florent de Merode Corton Marechaudes - lovely old wine, good food match, but this week the Pommard beats it out

Well, I did buy plenty of 2010s - lots more than you did i am sure.

So am I.

Anyway, the 2005 Kunstler Stielweg Old Vines has, like some other 2005s, started coming around. It had beautiful aromatics and a compelling palate presence last night.

Ian, Ian, Ian. I got it. What I was trying to ask, albeit obliquely, is this: If Hugues is going to make the wine for his cousin then we, the drinking public, have not lost the combination of vineyard + maker... we just have to look for a different label. Does he do the wine-making at his cousin's place? (Of course, if you don't know which cousin then this question becomes very difficult to answer.)

Have been hankering to get rid of my last bottle of Pergole Torte because of the pearls of tort surrounding the Martino Manetti dude. I can take an evening's bad karma for my liver, but not an ongoing one for my cellar. This 2006 was handsome, but there's plenty of fish in the ocean, as they say.
I have one bottle of the 2005 left and I am treating it like the Huet: drink when its ready (as best I can tell) but, now that I see what I'm dealing with, offer no further encouragement.

I had three bottles of 2012 Pepiere Briords on Wednesday night.* Two were only fantastic. One was phenomenal. I bought more of this than any other wine I ever purchased (with one exception meant mostly to pour at my wedding), and I am quickly realizing it is not enough.

Last night, a couple of glasses of 2007 Puffeney Les Berangeres Trousseau. If you had poured it blind and told me it was Burgundy, I would have believed.#

* Not alone, of course.

# Although I have a bad track record when it comes to these things.

The only cuvee I am holding for any time any more. Drink or hold?

Savvy question for which I lack the knowledge to answer.

Are the cousins in question Regis/Luc et Lise Pavelot? They made a 2010 PV 1er Verg, but they've been making it since at least 1996, so maybe not...

Sandi and I drank this for dinner last night. Yup, really lovely stuff. A touch reduced initially, but that blew away in about 10 minutes.

That after opening a quite corked bottle of '10 Le Ratapoil.
