What did you drink tonight?

95 Müllen Kröver Paradies Trocken - one of Lyles offering and right off the truck. Beautiful wine AND if I recall under $30. I wish I could have purchased more. I hope the other Müllens are this good. I have been extremely pleased with all of the German wines from Fass Selections.

'98 JJ Christoffel UW Auslese ***

That's an excellent wine, one of Hanno's favourites as well.

Kirk, do you recall the ET Auslese* we had at P&A, when Maureen was in town? That's quite a range they made in 1998.

Anne Amie Willamette Valley "Amrita Cuvee A" 2012 - medium strength aroma with peachy-quince fruit, slight wildflower-honey tone; good acid, slight but distinct petillance, appley-quince-taffy fruit, off-dry, lively. A friend and I found this somehow Vouvrayish but it's a kitchen sink blend of Viognier, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chard, Pinot Gris, Muller-Thurgau and Gewurz. 1.3 RS Alc 13.5% $10.99 on deal. Original and fun.

Ferrando 2011 Canavese Rosso "La Torazza" - I didn't know they made this wine. Intense and bright, though a little non-descript otherwise, it works well at the table.

I love the Canavese Rosso (Nebbiolo with a little Barbera) as an every day wine. For under $20 retail I find it tastes like northern Piedmont Nebbiolo, has some nice structure and, as you say, pairs well with food.

Couldn't agree more. My buddy has this on the list for his new restaurant. It was the bottle I ordered for the soft opening. Made the night even better.

My 3rd or 4th bottle of the 2010 Produttori Barbaresco and I think I'm understanding the way forward. Give it more air than I thought it needed, and finish it while still at the dinner table! If I do those two things, it has been an absolute delight. Nothing too special but a fine rendition of young Barbaresco. And are people really planning to age this bottling?

I've also been enjoying the 2012 Descombes Morgon VV. Elegant, flavorful and delicate. I've always been a big Descombes fan and this does not disappoint.

Agreed on almost all counts. No plans to age it. But I'm not sure I agree on "nothing too special . . ." I find it a fine rendition of Nebbiolo d'Alba no matter what the label says. And given the price, I don't think anyone was thinking age worthy Barbaresco.

Ok. I'm not one of the regular Produttori followers, so I was curious for some other input. Although on another board I see at least some folks are planning to age it for a while. But I have very limited space and am not sure this makes the cut.

The 2004 Karl Lawrence Cabernet Sauvignon is in a really nice, mature place awaiting marinated flank steak to be done on the grill.

The rule of 15 was in effect for 1999 Ridge Lytton Springs which smelled a little troubled when first opened, but farted that away during a 2 hour decant to emerge as wine at the top of its game in concert with the annual non-brined, cooked in a bag with apple-sausage stuffing turkey and a variety of yummy sides. Happy I have 3 more of these stashed away.

2012 Jean-Marc Burgaud Beaujolais-Villages Les Vignes de Thulon was a great foil for duck confit, duck breast and paté at Bistronomic tonight. Bright Gamay fruit in a slightly darker vein with enough tannin remaining to quite demand food.

foillard morgon 90 drinks like old friendships. lilting gamay fruit in a sunny, strawberry vein; resolved but not faded, with structure enough to remind me to eat.
