Hochar is quoted in his NYT obituary as saying he knows how to make wine, but knows shit about wine.

Last night was a lovely dinner of fresh pumpkin ravioli and sauteed spinach with orange muscat vinegar and a rocking bottle of 2012 Descombes Morgon VV. This has always delivered the elegant crystal silky crunch. And keeps proving bottle after bottle how such a combination is possible!

I don't understand that other threadBut a bottle of Nikolaihof muskateller 2008 yesterday was very nice. Time has softened the acid edges, but it still has zip. And all that yellow Muscat funk and smoothness. At 12% abv, so very lunchable.

2012 Chateau d'Epire, Savennieres Cuvee Speciale - Flowers, honey, stones and all things Savennieres, very open and easy going wine for this house. Not a softy by any means but much less austere than the wines I remember from the '90s-'00s. Really nice to drink now. Also they have redesigned their label. It's an elegant, all typography solution but of course I prefer the old look.

Thanks for this. Haven't bought a bottle of Epire in years. I was never blown away. But you've inspired me to revisit.
