Huet 2002 wiki

Three interesting 2002s over the weekend, poured and consumed outdoors.

02 Huet Pet Reserve (I bought this at Crush NYC) - Quite youthful, rounder around the edges than 1st release.
02 Foreau Brut Reserve - less expressive on opening than either Huet. Fine structure, dense and compact. Hold.
02 Huet Petillant 1st release - some thought premox. To me it was herbal and expressive, the most so of the three. You could say more evolved than the two reserves, but in a good way to me.

I found the Reserve much richer but both were very good. This confirmed that the '02 first release I opened last week was definitely a tad premoxed in comparison with this one.

I also thought the Huet1 was fine. The Foreau was earthier, less nervy, but still delicious. The HuetR was a tad tame for me.

Opened another fine but rather mature bottle of the '02 pet 1st release this past weekend. Very tasty, and presented as still wine with a slight tickle.

I was surprised by all the controversy.

the 1st release bottle was way too short to be OK

Where do I post a gorgeous non-pox bottle of 02 Pinon Tradition from last night?

We opened an 02 Le Mont Demi at Terroir on Sunday, and it was Poxed. 07 Bourg Sec showed brilliantly, and three bottles of 02 Pet were sound.

In memory of Joe, I opened a 2002 LHL sec this afternoon. Initially smells just like a honeycomb. Some oxidation, but not an inappropriate level. Tons of acid with just enough fruit to keep it from being harsh. As it warms up and airs out, the fruit blossoms, bringing better balance. A good but not great showing.

2002 Petillant Reserve last night was not even beginning to premox. I have now opened 8 of the 12 bottles I bought of this wine without having a single premoxed example. I suppose I am lucky.

On Thanksgiving, another great bottle of the '02 petillant regular, 2nd release. Really stood out vs. a rather quiet bottle of the '07 opened earlier in the afternoon.

Btw, forgot to mention an '02 CDB Moelleux 1ere Trie that was opened on 10/25 when Lou and BettyLu Kessler were over, was delightful. Vivid and fresh with plenty of cut and showing reduced sweetness than on release.

2002 LHL Demi-Sec was completely shot tonight.
I think this wine was my first by the case purchase.
Still probably have 6-7 bottles buried somewhere.
sigh
