Huet 2002 wiki

My last bottle of '02 petillant (1st release) was lovely, with developing earl grey tea notes but also a fine core of rich, apple-y sweetness. I had to double-check the bottle to confirm that it wasn't the reserve.

This was a thirst quenching tonic while slinging pizzas throughout a rather warm evening, in a hot kitchen, in front of a very hot oven. At some point it occurred to me that over the years I've probably drunk more of this than any other single vintage/wine.

2002 Domaine Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec Le Haut-Lieu
Great bottle IMO. Golden orange in color had me a bit nervous but this was right where it should be. Th nose has a slightly bitter, slightly salty mineral quality with some quince. Nice texture. Good acidity. The bottle took 30 minutes to open (and warm) and then showed a depth and a complexity. Minerals, slight citrus. Nice finish. Seems to be about at peak but no hurry.

Note a theme here? Brad nowhere around and 2002 Huets not premoxed. Coincidence? I think not.

Maureen, if you are claiming that premox is not a problem with 02 Huet, then I must have an anomalous collection, because at least half of mine have been. I have had very good luck with the fizz (not one premox yet), but very bad luck with the Haut Lieu (some drinkable, none pristine).

Geez fellas get over yourselves. Can't a girl tease Brad without the two of you getting your knickers in a knot?

Perfectly wonderful 2002 Huet LHL Demi-Sec.

Consumed over three days in the interest of science.

And i bet Brad was not around!

it's funnier than you think - bottle is from a batch I shared with Brad.

I've had plenty of premoxed 02 Huet, to various degrees. I am sure mine are somewhere in the back of the cellar.

'02 Clos du Bourg demisec tonight. Too young, but glorious. Vibrant, lemony and tight, still a baby, relaxes a bit with air, gives up a little more complexity. Glad I have a few of these left to age, as I'd guess they'll certainly outlive me.

Well, right, if they were consistently like that and not splat all over the place from that to shot....

I haven't had any shot bottles, so I'm just going to hope my luck continues to hold.

2002 Huet Vouvray Petillant Reserve, last weekend.
This was from the 1st shipment, from Rare Wine Company.
Fresh as a daisy, with great tangy acid, intense yellow pome fruit (apple/quince/medlar), a solid core of richness, and just a touch of that developing chenin mustiness that makes you wonder if the wine is corked. Loved how the nose was super ripe and exotic but then the palate was fresh and bone dry with driving acidity. I'm sure a little sugar would have given this a boost on the mid and back palate but I loved the severity.
